Kalie Dunn '08 (Captain)

Hey guys!

I hope the beginning of everyone’s summer is off to a good start. Beano and I began our trek home with a bike ride from Burlington to Maine which was a lot of fun. It took two solid days, and I think we ended up riding around 210 miles. I was pretty sore over the next few days but glad that we did it. I went to Burlington this past weekend to pick up my car and was able to see Isaac and it seems like a lot of Vermonters are going to be around this summer so there should be some good group training for you guys. Roger Knight who works at Peak Performance in Portland is trying to get a U23 group of Maine skiers together for people who are around so I am looking forward to that. It will probably be a 1 or 2 day a week thing, hopefully shooting some video and whatnot.

So I just started work at the beginning of this week and am getting back into the whole working and training schedule, which is sometimes hard to get back into but definitely gets easier. Anyways, I have been running and biking with other people which always makes working out more enjoyable for me especially for the longer endurance workouts. As far as intensity workouts, I am always a little slow getting into them at the beginning of the summer but I plan on doing some fun road races and maybe a triathlon if I learn how to swim decently! I’d love to hear from you guys about any training ideas because it really helps mix up the workouts a little bit. Also, as the girls team and I discussed a little bit during finals week, some goals to think about for next season are to challenge each other during practice by working with each other’s strengths/weaknesses and to also think about moving up in our team standings in carnivals next season. In order to reach these goals I cannot stress enough how important summer training is. Although it seems like the season is so far away, it really makes a difference to be prepared and in shape when you come to school in the fall so that we can all work towards the race season. Good luck with work and training and don’t forget to keep it touch!

Welcome to the SLUSKI Blog

Yes it is a bit lacking in flash right now but I will work on this more over the summer. I think using a blog like this one will be easier and more fun than just making posts on the team webpage.
So far I have been having a really good summer. I finished the hotbox a couple weeks ago and since then have mostly been finishing up the deck, not much left to do now, some staining and then I can start in on some other projects. I have been doing well with my own training and seem to be on track right now to be more fit than I was this past fall. I will take some pictures of the hotbox and put those up soon. Still some testing to do with it and probably some modifications but all in all I think the project came out great.

If you want me to post something from you just email me an I will put it up, this will be a great way for the team to see what everyone is up to throughout the summer.
