Hey everyone! Hope your summers are starting off well. My summer started off great for training, but has been suffering a readjustment period as it adjusts to life in the real world… better put life at IBM. Turns out that forty hours a week is a LONG time. Everything is going well, except for the fact that I’m the dumbest person there, not to mention that I have no engineering or computer science background, so I am essentially trying to learn a second, very technical language. At least my internship is in marketing….

Anyway, I’ve been trying to get one race in each week. I ran the Ottawa half-marathon with a friend from SLU on Memorial Day weekend and she basically pulled me along on the fastest 13.1 miles I will probably ever run. While that was an awesome experience, I’m trying to work on picking up my pace on the shorter 5ks because right now I am stuck in that half-marathon pace. I’ve done two 5k’s so far, one cross-country race at Catamount and one road race. I also did a 10k in between the two which was a good pace test.

I started doing some spenst and ski-walking workouts last week and am trying to work more rollerskiing into my training as well. Up to this point I had been doing a lot of biking, swimming and running. Kind of like Kalie and Beano, although significantly less bad-ass, I biked to Plattsburg the Friday of exam week and met my mom at the ferry, so I almost biked home…but not quite. I have my first triathlon this weekend so I’ll really be able to tell what I have to work on depending on whether I sink or swim...

Enough about training! I hope everyone’s doing well. I’m sure you guys have all kinds of summer jobs and training schedules but I’d love to hear from you! Email Ethan a blog so I can read about what you’re all doing. I need the break at work. Any of you that are in the Burlington area, let me know if you ever want to do anything!

Good luck!

Overall things have been going well, I've been having a blast up here in the NEK. Training has been great; although now I have to do any running/mountain biking on my own due to Hunter's ankle. I usually get up in the morning around 7:30 and start work at 8. Work consists of mowing lawns, painting, drywall, and building a new deck on one of the dorms. Lunch starts at 12, back on the clock at 1. I usually work until 4, and then train for about 1hr30 to 2hrs. I usually get done around 6 or 6:30. Recently Hunter, Brian (a recent alpine grad of burke), and I have been fly fishing after our workouts for about an hour or so. After dominating the small mouth bass in Burke Mountain's snow making pond, we head back to campus and cook dinner. It may shock you that we're even still alive having to cook for ourselves, but let me tell you, I don't think the king of England ever ate this well. Bed time's between 10 and 11, then get up the next morning and do it all over again.

Hey everyone. Summer in Stowe is finally starting up. I kept my job at the Mercantile down in the village peddling candy and crafts to tourists and old ladies, and I also started my new job at a Science lab at UVM with Mike Hart '06. that's going well, except today I found out that the last 40hours worth of work was on an experiment didn't work. Whoops...but I'll still take your money. Besides that, I have been trying to get some good training in. Double poled up the Smuggs side of the notch on Tuesday which was a grind and a half for a solid hour, and did some running and sprinting on the Mount Mansfield Touring center trails yesterday (both are about 5 mins from my house so thats sooo nice). Hit up the dirt park yesterday after the workout with my brother and Graham Flynn, Jen Kish (both piners), and Mike. Mike and I ate it so hard on a little jump. I was legit spitting dirt for about an hour, and my face is a little F'ed up. Probably not as bad as Hunters ankle, but still hurts. Hope to get in a good OD skate tomorrow in Craftsbury before heading to the mercantile for the evening.
Hope everyone is doing well, and if your ever in the area feel free to call or stop by. I live across the parking lot from the matterhorn on the mountain road.
later,Isaac.

First Summer Sunset 5K run

The first Summer Sunset 5K(plus a little more) was yesterday evening. I thought I would be able to run a little faster than I did 19:25, last year I ran 19:03 at the first one, although I think it was considerably hotter yesterday. It was a great turnout, about 150? people in attendance maybe 70 or 80 in the race. Seems like everyone was about 30secs off what they wanted to run. Planning on a mountain bike ride this afternoon with Kevin Emblidge '06 who is up here through the summer continuing to take classes toward his Masters in Education.

Weekend Vermont Trip

Jenny, myself, and Nera were in Vermont this past weekend for my younger brother's wedding so we took the opportunity to get in some sweet mountain biking at Burke. We were hoping to catch up with Hunter and Zach while we were there but that didn't end up working out much to Nera's dissapointment. On the way back we had planned on hiking up Mt. Belvedere but with our poor sense of direction ended up about 15 miles north on the Long Trail headed up Hazen's Notch. A good hike none the less. We also saw two Moose on the drive over which was pretty cool, didn't get a good picture though. The pictures are the inside of the Hazen's Notch Cabin and the view from there to Jay Peak.

Hotbox

As you can see from the pic its pretty much a heated coffin. I need to start testing it out with skis to see what modifications I need to make. It has a digital thermoprocessing unit that you can't see in this picture. I have had it up to 150 degrees F within about 15 minutes of turning it on so I think getting it to a high enough temp won't be a problem. The trick will be figuring out where to mount the fans so that we get good air circulation and an even temp throughout the box.
For training I have been mostly road biking and running. This coming weekend we will be visiting my parents in Glover, VT and so plan to get over to the mountain biking trails in Burke. I hope it dries out again by then so the trails will be good.
