Recap of the two weeks before break continued

Post 2, Continued

So...the week of Dec. 11th, we were able to get back to Higley, our regular training stomping ground.  It was a little bit thinner than Star Lake, but with it being the last week of classes, it was nice not to have to travel as far.  The two main workouts for the week were classic ski intervals on Wednesday and then races at Nakkertok in Canada on Saturday and Sunday.  With the first Eastern Cup in Fort Kent, Maine, and it being right before the week of finals, we knew we had to come up with an alternative.  Nakkertok ski club in Gatineau, Canada was hosting a weekend of racing called: "The Candy Cane Cup".  They were just as awesome and productive for our team as an Eastern Cup and the race format of the weekend was almost the same.

On Saturday, Jackie, Lucy, Tim, Matt M, Matt Y, Ben, and GH all raced in the Skate Sprints and represented our team very well!  Saturday Results

On Sunday, our team again did great! With it being -10 when we arrived, the classic race was postponed an hour.   It was a 1.7km course for 5 loops. Tim, Nathaniel, GH, Matt M, all raced for boys. Tim got 3rd overall and Nathaniel got 8th!  Alum Phil Marshall placed 13th with GH not too far behind in 21st. Lucy, Dana, Erin, Eliza, Gabby, and Emily all raced for girls. Lucy placed second after a superb day on Saturday, with Dana not too far behind in 5th place! Erin also did well, placing in 12th.  Emily was clearly not feeling right because she ended up doing an extra lap! The course was 5 laps, starting in a field and gradually going up to a 180 turn around and coming back down into the field, but then going up a big hill.  Coming down the hill, you would gain more speed than you would expect and near the bottom you had to make a sharp left turn, but the turn was banked. With the embankment, lots of skiers were snow plowing making the turn very icy.  Nonetheless, the Saints had another great day! Although it was cold and the trail was tricky, everyone was in good spirits. The coaches also crushed the waxing job.

Thanks for following us! We are on break for awhile now.  Some of us head to JNQ races at Gore Mtn. on Jan. 5th, while the rest of us drive to Mont Sainte Anne in Canada.  We will then all have a week of training at MSA up until the Colby Carnival on the 13th at Quarry Road in Waterville, Maine!  We are excited and looking forward to seeing everyone on the trails!

Hope you are all enjoying the holidays and staying warm!
