Aliya from Idaho, NOT from a potato farm

By Aliya Brown '21

Hi Everyone!

My name is Aliya Brown, and I’m from Boise, Idaho (no, I don’t live on a potato farm).  I graduated from Boise High School, and skied with Bogus Basin Nordic Team starting my sophomore year.  Since I just started skiing three years ago, I can’t wait to continue developing as a skier here at SLU!

This summer, I continued to train with BBNT and got to go on a couple of amazing training camps in Truckee, CA, and the Ruby Mountains.  Along with training, I did some coaching with our devo team (which was super fun) and worked as a nanny for some awesome kids.  I usually headed up to the river for an evening paddle after work, and despite my busy schedule got a ton of kayaking in this summer.  I live just 45 minutes away from the Payette River, where we have some amazing stretches of whitewater, so I try to take advantage of that at least three or four days a week throughout the summer!

So far, I have been loving my time at SLU!  It has been amazing to explore some new roads to rollerski and run on unfamiliar trails.  We have been getting some really tough workouts in along the way, and it has been fun to get stronger as a team.  Last week, we had a few tests (Canadian Strength, 3 km, no pole, and double pole) and everyone crushed it!! Let’s keep up the hard work and pray for some snow!
