Hi all,
This past week the Saints started their first official week of practice! Starting off dark and early Tuesday morning (no, the sun hadn’t risen yet) the team cruised through and crushed a 3km run on the track. Thankfully, it wasn’t too hot and muggy in the morning, but as the afternoon came around, temps were in the upper 80's and we still had a strength test to do! The Canadian Strength test consists of pull ups, sit-ups, push-ups, box jumps, and tricep dips for one minute each, with a minute break in-between. It was short, but let me tell you, it didn’t feel very sweet- not at first, anyways. Fortunately, some of us ran to the rope-swing after and cooled off in the river. It felt amazing! On Wednesday, we had a nice classic ski on a freshly paved segment near Miner St., and ended up recovering at a super cool swimming hole a couple miles from campus.

Testing so far has gone really well. The team is looking really strong and motivated right now. We are dealing with some illnesses among the first years though, but hopefully it doesn't last too long. We are loving this fall weather, and looking forward to family weekend this weekend and mid-semester break the following weekend! Later in October, we will complete St. Regis Uphill TT and the 7.5k/10k Skate Rollerski TT. Time is flying by!
Be sure to stop in at our Ski Swap Sale this Saturday, Oct. 7th at Leithead field house from 10-1pm! Drop off period on Friday from 2-6pm.

Thursday morning greeted us with some awesome circuit training; focusing on agility, balance, and strength. In the afternoon, we had a recovery trail run to SUNY Canton, topped off with a good stretch. (At this point in the week, temperatures receded approximately thirty degrees, making it a joyous time for us skiers, thank goodness!) On Friday, we skate skied at Browns Bridge, and on Saturday morning we hammered up the 1.5mile uphill road for a double pole and re-added no-pole time trial, back to back. I think we can all agree we got the lactic acid moving, as well as our butts looking even better, and for some of us, the pleasant burn of the triceps after substituting the no-pole test for ANOTHER double pole test- ye-haw!

For our Sunday fun-day, some of us had a nice long classic OD to Higley Flow State Park, while the rest of the team took a trip out to the Adirondacks and hiked up Phelps Mtn. to some breathtaking views!
The first week of official practices was officially awesome. It’s great to be back in the groove of things, and I think we’re all excited to see what ETown and Kyle have in store for us!
