Gatin-yes
No snow in Canton when we got back from Jackson, so we took a drive up to Gatineau park where we found more Ks than we could ski in a day, quadruple-set tracks and everything from wide highway trails to narrow singletrack woods loops. All in all a great bluebird day, and now there is enough snow back in Canton to get in some intervals at Higley. Hard to believe its January 31st and we have yet to ski at Higley ONCE this year. Here are some photos:

Bates Carnival
We had a somewhat mediocre start with a few impressive individual performances over our first weekend of Carnival racing at good old Rumford, ME hosted by Bates. The women's team was without Leah who had to sit out due to illness and Amanda who is unfortunately out for the season now with injury. Caroline raced well to lead the team both days with a 28th/19th place finish respectively. It was a rather rough introduction to college ski racing for the rest of the women's team but I am sure we can improve and learn from it.
The first day for the men saw them finish in 8th which was rather dissapointing but they rallied well to take 6th as a team on the second day. Our three scorers on the second day all beat their classic seeding positions by a fair margin which was really encouraging among a very tight men's field. Highlights included a near personal best for Connor as well as a personal best for Eric in the classic race on day 2. I was also very impressed with freshman Austin Meng's very strong finish to lead the men's team in the 10K classic mass start race on day 2.

US Nationals week
US Nationals went pretty well I think. Eric's win in the junior men's classic sprint was certainly a great note to end on. I am really looking forward now to getting the team together at the end of this week to start our EISA race season which begins with Bates Carnival back in good old Rumford. At the very least I feel confident that we can expect so excellent racing conditions based on what they were able to pull off this week. It would be great however to actually ski some of the rest of the trails so lets hope some natural snow finally starts to accumulate significantly. The plan was to train at Jackson XC on the courses for UNH Carnival and then head over to Rumford. However I think we might end up skiing a bit more at Black Mnt. unless the snow picks up soon in Jackson.
Other highlights from the week include Caroline's 26th place finish in the Women's 20K Classic. She paced this effort exceptionally well moving up I think 3 or 4places in the final 5K of the race. I would say this was probably one of the best races she has put together. Adam has had very consistent and strong results early in this season and should be able to move up significantly within the EISA field. We have a lot of new faces this season, it should be very exciting.

Nationals Sprint
Top honors go to Amanda in the women's field (our top female finisher), Teo in the guys race (our top male finisher), and Eric who made the Junior guys heats. Today was clear, cold and fast. Fast racing and fun spectating for those of us who didn't make heats (that means everyone but Eric..). Here are some pictures of random people in random order.

Nationals Video Update
Because you thought Rumford was boring last year, when there were actually RACES to go to.
