2nd week of Official practice

By Dana Hatton '18

Greetings,

We are currently away on Mid-Semester break! We are taking the rest of the week to recover and hopefully come back fresh for some more quality training!

Last week, we continued with morning practice on Tuesday, but this time at the track.  We learned some new ladder drills, did a lot of spenst work, and added in some sprints.  That afternoon, we had a nice skate rollerski at Butternut Ridge, with some no pole work.

Agility and speed work on the track this morning to get things rolling for the day

On Wednesday, Coach Curry took charge and led us in some classic double pole and single stick intervals at Suny Canton, around their campus.  While most of us were feeling our legs from the morning track workout, it was nice, to say the least, to do arm work. Although bodies are tired, people have been relatively focused and doing the work!

Thursday morning, we were back on the morning circuit grind in Leithead Fieldhouse and finished the day with a run on the campus trails.

On Friday, we finally got to challenge ourselves on a skate rollerski agility course at Bend in the River park, down the road.  We weaved around cones, did some 180 and 360 spins, hopped over logs, ran over the grass, balanced on one leg, and hop skated up the hill. It was full of a variety of drills and after a few test runs, ETown timed us. Here are the times for the fun of it, even though there could easily be a margin of error of 10 seconds or more:

On Saturday morning, the gang took to the Kip Trail on campus and ran hard for a few interval repeats.  Spirits were high, even though it started to rain and became quite the dreary morning. Luckily, our parents and families had arrived that afternoon for family weekend making for a fun time!  We had a nice cookout in Leithead with lots of delicious meat, baked goods, snacks, salads and more! It was really nice to meet everyones family's, and get familiar with faces before the ski season starts. The fall is already coasting by, with family weekend just wrapped up and now Mid-Semester upon us, the snow is just around the corner!

Both ski teams hosted the 3rd Annual Ski Swap Sale that same Saturday, which went off without a hitch. I'd say it was very successful this year, and I'm very glad our team could help at the drop off period on Friday.  We helped bring in people's equipment they wanted to sell or donate and we priced all items.  Thanks team! Without your help, the sale wouldn't have been as successful!

Lots of great Alpine and Nordic gear will be available tomorrow at the ski sale. See you tomorrow 10-1 in Leithead!
GH, George, Tim, and Jordan S help organize the SKI Swap Sale the day before.

Thanks to all who supported both our Alpine and Nordic teams by donating or purchasing equipment!!  We are looking forward to a great season!

-Dana
