A few weeks ago, some of the team travelled to Lake Placid for an adventurous weekend of hiking and racing! On that Saturday, Lucy and Natalie went to the ski jumps to compete in a freestyle sprint and an obstacle course. Despite sickness and a very sketchy downhill turn, both girls did very well. Gabby, Steph, Emily, and Kate headed to the mountains (Wright - turned around at treeline due to bad weather, see video below, and Algonquin) to do a little pre-race hiking. It ended up being incredibly windy day, which made for tricky conditions, but luckily, we all kept our footing! The rest of the day was drizzly, so we spent the afternoon catching up on the day’s adventures and taking advantage of some necessary R&R after a long volume week. Lucy’s parents cooked us a delicious dinner and we were all in bed early, preparing for the Climb to the Castle the next day.

You could say it was windy.

Early Sunday morning, Gabby, Lucy, Steph, and Kate left for Whiteface Mountain. We met up with Ian and Charlie, who travelled all the way from campus to race. Climb to the Castle is a 5-mile freestyle ski up the Whiteface auto-road. With a grueling 8% average grade, this race is not for the faint-hearted. The team crushed the hill-climb, and everyone who raced got a PR! Even the strong headwind could not stop this team (only broken skis could do that... but Ian was killing it until then!!). We could not have done as well as we did without the support from Jaden and Jackie, who started super early and hiked up Whiteface ahead of us to cheer us on from the top! I feel very lucky to be a part of such a supportive team, and couldn’t have asked for a better group of people to do crazy adventures with! A BIG thank you to Lucy’s parents for letting us stay at their house that weekend.

This week marks the start of official training with coaches! Stay tuned for results from testing week and more first year intros. The team is already looking really strong both in training and in class!

Confused Concord from Cameron and Robyn from Canada!

Howdy new friends!

My name is Cameron or Cam, sometimes people also call me Simon! I hail from 43.2081°N, 71.5376°W. For those of you that are geographically challenged that is approximately 238,900 miles from the moon (About once every 24 hours). I have been skiing since I was in seventh grade, and I am supper excited to be continuing my ski career at Saint Lawrence. When I am not skiing or desperately trying not to pass out during a run then you can find me passed out on my bed or actively procrastinating on anything and everything that I possibly can!

Since arriving at SLU, I have had some great training sessions with the team. At one of these practices I learned that my spirit animal is a deer. But deer are typically pretty fast, and I am more along the lines of like moderately ok. So thus, I am more of a slow deer. To help you better understand you should picture a deer in the woods. That’s me! You can also look at the picture of young me for reference. (image credit: @calvincorperated)

A firm belief of mine is that the plural of moose should be meese. The singular of goose is goose and the plural of goose is geese. The singular of moose is moose and the plural of moose is also moose?! NO! This should not be. The singular of moose is moose and the Plural of moose should be meese. It just makes sense.

In high school I took three years of Latin. Looking back on it I am not entirely sure why I thought a dead language would be a good idea, but I can now comprehend the phrase “volo tu et cadit in piscinam”. Which roughly translates to “I wish for you to fall into the fishpond.” but it is missing the accents mostly because I don’t know how to add them on computer and partly because I have no idea where they go.

Now until we meet again please keep an eye out for slow deer and regular speed meese. Don’t hit them with your car.
Toodles,
Cameron Brochu

Hello! My name is Robyn McIntosh and I am from Chelsea, Quebec. Chelsea is 15 minutes north of Ottawa and right in the Gatineau Park, which is nationally known for its numerous hiking and skiing trails. Thankfully, growing up in the Gatineau Park, I started skiing when I was 2 years old and racing with my local club, Chelsea Nordic, when I was 6 until I was 16. Then I went to Dublin School and skied with the school’s nordic team and the club team. Dublin School was great! I met GH and going to high school in the United States led me to St. Lawrence.

My first year at St. Lawrence I took the season off of skiing, but during the winter I realized I was bored and missed skiing, so I talked to ETown and became a part of the team! This summer I trained hard by myself to get back into skiing shape. So far being back on campus has been so much fun! Although my IT band has limited me from doing all the captains' practices, the ones I have been to have been a lot of fun, and I am super pumped to be training with teammates again! I am not used to rollerskiing on the roads with cars, so that has been an adjustment, but I’m excited for the snow and to ski and explore new trails. I am looking forward to the upcoming season!

A New Year and New Faces!

We've been back at school for a couple weeks now, and it has been great to get back into training! We had an intensity week our first full week back and then had a recovery week. We were only at half strength last week, as the stomach bug took over SLU, but those of us that were healthy still crushed the Alumni XC/Run4Ryan race! Thanks to the cross country teams for having us. Here are some great photos. In other news, its been the usual captains' practice and intense games of speedball. Lastly, congratulations to Brian on getting named to NTG!!! So amazing. Now, it's time to get to know our awesome new teammates! Today, hear from Charlie and keep an eye out for more coming soon :) - Lucy
On every day we wear neon

Hey friends,
I am Charlie Reinhardt, and I am a freshman on the St. Lawrence Nordic Ski Team! I am from the suburbs of Minneapolis, Minnesota (Spring Park, MN, to be specific). Throughout high school, I ran cross country in the fall and nordic skied in the winter. I also dabbled in Track & Field and Tennis, but not enough to consider myself well-versed in the complexities of their respective lifestyles. Aside from skiing, I really like science, math, and making myself look stupid. Pictured below is a beautiful combination of those three passions at a high school physics field trip to our local amusement park. Worth noting is that upon posting this picture on Instagram, I almost got recruited to be a social media ambassador for a random clothing brand. The business deal only fell through once they stole all my money, and I realized it was a fake offer they used to scam people on the internet.

Thus far, I have had a blast being on the SLU ski team. It has been really cool to meet and train hard with such a fun and motivated group of people. The training has been amazing: nice weather and surprisingly good roads for roller skiing has made for a great first two weeks of captain’s practice! I am looking forward to skiing fast, hopping on the Dana Train, and avoiding the flu with the team this upcoming fall and winter!

Your new friend,
Charlie Reinhardt
